WHY MORE THAN COUNSELING EXISTS
When I was in sixth grade, a teacher asked us to describe ourselves.
I wrote three simple words: I am human.
I didn’t know it then, but those words stayed with me. Before our roles, labels, relationships, successes, struggles, or the expectations we carry, we are human. We feel. We hurt. We grow. We make mistakes. We change.
And sometimes, we simply need a space where we don’t have to have it all figured out.
That little sentence from sixth grade became a question I’ve carried with me ever since: What does it mean to be human?
It’s a question that continues to shape how I see myself, how I understand others, and how I show up in my work with you.
Life didn’t answer that question all at once.
I found pieces of the answer in my relationships, in the classroom, in counseling rooms, and especially in the stories people trusted me enough to share.
They taught me that none of us have it all figured out. We’re all learning, changing, making mistakes, healing, and trying to understand ourselves a little better.
Years before I opened my practice, I had a folder on my computer called The Green Room. It was a little vision I had for a space where different ways of supporting wellbeing could come together.
At the time, I thought I was creating a place.
Now I realize I was also creating a way of working: looking at the whole person, not just the problem they came in with.
That vision eventually became More Than Counseling.
I believe every human being is more than the story they currently believe about themselves.
The question that began in a sixth-grade classroom continues to guide my work today.
Whether I’m sitting with an individual, supporting a leadership team, teaching professionals, or partnering with an organization, I continue returning to the same belief: Meaningful transformation begins with reflection.
Curiosity expands what reflection reveals. Understanding deepens how we relate to ourselves and one another.
Reflect
Transformation begins by making space to honor your story.
Stay Curious
Every human being is more than the story they currently share about themselves.
Honor
How we understand ourselves and one another shapes how we live, lead, relate, and grow.
If this way of seeing resonates with you, I’d be honored to explore what brings you here.
